Bonjour dah-ling!
The weather outside may be frightful but your hair doesn’t have to be! Sweater season doesn’t have to leave your locks looking sub-par. Read on for the remedy to all your winter hair care woes.
Moisturize Your Mane
Just like cooler climates can cause chapped lips and itchy skin, the lack of moisture in the air can also cause straw-like strands, static frizz, and an itchy scalp. If you’re not already using our Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner, now is the season to do so! And while you’re at it, you may want to become BFF’s with our Reconstructing Masque. At least once a week, we recommend using this restorative, deep conditioning treatment to re-hydrate thirsty hair, add protein and protect against winter’s harsh elements. Insider tip: For a fabulous, frizz-free mane, limit washing and drying your hair to three times a week.
Take A Look At Your Tools
If curling and flat irons can burn your skin, imagine what heat styling is doing to your fragile hair! During winter, hair that’s already damaged from too much styling is further damaged from cold weather and dry indoor heat, leading to split ends and breakage. For radiant, healthy hair, invest in a tourmaline or ionic hair dryer and styling tools; both of these technologies not only help speed up drying time, but also neutralize hair’s positive ions (which cause frizz and flyaways), help seal hair’s cuticles, and impart shine. Not in the market for a new dryer just yet? We’ve got your back, or hair rather, ma cherie! Once your hair is 75-85% dry, switch to the low setting or use the “cool shot” button on your dryer to reduce heat damage, lock in moisture, and help your hair’s cuticles to lie flat.
Add to Your Arsenal
In addition to investing in top-quality tools, there are a few products that are essential when trying to keep your hair looking and feeling its best. Don’t underestimate the need for a designated heat protectant; our Thermal Styling Spray will create a protective barrier between the heat and your hair, leading to healthier locks. Our Blow Dry Lotion will dry hair up to 30-50% faster, offer style support, add another layer of thermal protectant, and help tame frizz. Lastly, for damaged and heat-abused hair, our Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil is an absolute must-have! This product can disguise split-ends leaving you with healthier-looking, silky-soft strands. Apply 1-2 pumps to damp hair before drying, or emulsify a dime-sized amount in hands before applying to the ends of dry hair.
Spray or Swipe Away Static– Sometimes in a pinch, people will use a hand cream or body lotion to try and tame static flyaways. These products are not meant for hair and are therefore too heavy, causing hair to look oily and limp. Instead, spray a comb or brush with our Mighty Hairspray and lightly brush away flyways for gorgeous, touchable hair. (Bonus #hairhack – If that doesn’t do the trick, you can swipe a dryer sheet over your hair to get rid of any remaining frizz.) Voila!
The damage that winter weather can cause to your hair is snow joke (we know, insert eye roll here)! But now that you’re savvy about how to treat and prevent damage, you can focus on staying warm. The snuggle is real dah-lings but don’t worry, spring will be here soon!
