Bonjour Dah-lings!
It’s time to put a stop to the war against your ringlets. A head full of gorgeous curls is a blessing, not a curse! We know caring for your coils is no easy task, but with the right styling techniques, you too can be tress obsessed. We’re sharing a few of the unwritten rules of curl management, so you can make the most out of your natural mane.
Don’t Over Wash
Shampooing too often washes out the natural oils your curls need to stay intact and makes hair brittle. You should be using a sulfate-free shampoo, as sodium lauryl sulfate can be very harsh on hair, especially curly hair. All of our products are sulfate and sodium chloride free, so you never have to worry about harsh or damaging chemicals. We recommend using Hydrating Shampoo on your tresses, being sure to skip days in between washes. If you have fine hair, shampoo every other day. Thicker hair can often go three or more days without a wash.
Do Condition, Condition, Condition
Did we mention condition? Conditioner is a curly girl’s best friend. The curlier the hair, the longer it takes for natural oils to travel from the scalp to the ends, causing the lower half of your hair to look dry. Just be sure to pick a formula that moisturizes without weighing hair down. We recommend moisturizing in the shower with Hydrating Condition but don’t just stop there. Use a styling product such as our Styling Foam, too. It gives all the curl enhancing support you need and nourishes and conditions hair in the process.
Don’t Brush Dry Hair
If you’ve ever run a brush through dry curls, you know the frizzy mess that follows. Doing so also leads to breakage and split ends. If you want to keep your curls intact and your mane frizz-free, only brush your hair when it’s wet. If you wake up with flyaways or frizz, use a detangling spray such as Super Comb Prep & Protect to reactive curls and use a damp brush to detangle before letting curls air-dry.
Do Give It A Twirl
Give your curls a little direction with the twirl technique. Start by running Smoothing Balm through damp hair to fend off frizz and add definition while keeping curls touchably soft. Next, use your finger to twist small sections of hair away from your face. Once all hair has been twisted, use a diffuser to gently dry hair halfway through, letting the rest dry naturally. Yes, beautifully bouncy curls are that easy!
Don’t Give Up On Your Curls
Whatever you do, never give up on your curls. Curly hair doesn’t have to be a hassle. You just have to find a curl routine that works well for you. Don’t be afraid to play around with different techniques until you find one that works wonders for your waves. Embrace your curls and treat them well and they’re sure to do the same for you!
