So, in honor of Earth Day 2022, we’re sharing four (our favorite number!) eco-friendly and easy-to-implement beauty swaps that show our planet all the love it deserves… While also making you look and feel amazing.
1. Watch the Packet!
We all know that deforestation and plastic pollution are huge problems for our planet at the moment. But as just one person, it can be difficult to feel as though you have much control over the matter.
But there are things you can do!
Checking the packaging of your chosen beauty products is as eco-friendly as possible is a great way to reduce your own carbon footprint, plus it tells retailers that this is what you want.
At N4, you can be confident that you’re getting the best packaging. All our bottles are refillable and recyclable and made with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified paper and soy ink. But that’s not all!
Did you know that square/rectangular bottles use less packaging in transport than round ones? That’s right, our beautiful rectangular bottles aren’t just that shape because it looks tres chic, but they let us sleep better at night knowing they fit together more efficiently, reducing waste in every step between our factories and your bathroom!
2. Bulk-Buy
Buying products in bulk is almost always the most economical option… But shopping this way won’t just reduce the strain on your bank balance – it’ll also reduce your impact on the planet!
When you stock up your beauty closet in bulk, you’ll be effectively reducing packaging waste. But you’ll also be reducing the number of trips to the store (or the number of delivery trucks on the road)… Meaning less CO2 emissions from nasty engines.

3. Go Cruelty-Free and Vegan-Friendly
It’s easy to believe that cruelty-free and vegan go hand-in-hand when it comes to beauty. But this isn’t always the case, and it’s important to know the difference.
Cruelty-free means the product has never been tested on animals. So, no bunnies wearing eyeliner or pigs in lipstick.
Vegan means that there are no animal by-products in the formula. This means no beeswax, milk, or squalene (a common cosmetic ingredient made from shark liver… that millions of sharks have been killed for!)
But it’s not just about protecting the animals when you go cruelty-free and vegan (although obviously, this is a big part of it)…
Animal testing facilities create huge levels of waste and carbon emissions, so by going cruelty-free, you’ll be picking a far more sustainable manufacturer. Cruelty-free products also tend to use fewer harmful chemicals, so your skin and hair get the best quality ingredients that have never been anywhere near any innocent creatures.

4. Aerosol Alternatives
OMG, we could not go without our hair spray or Firm Hold Gel. But just because we want to keep our ‘dos in perfect condition all day long, doesn’t mean we’re willing to sacrifice the environment to do it.
The problem with aerosol sprays is that they contain chemicals called propellants. These usually contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that are one of the main culprits in smog and global warming.
Thankfully, our Non-Aerosol Hair Spray and Firm Hold Gel products are made without any of the nasty chemicals that hurt our planet… So, we can look fabulous without compromise.

What’s more, while we’ve been very deliberate in our choices to leave things OUT of our haircare products, we’ve been equally decisive about what goes IN our formulas.
