Bonjour Dah-lings!
If you thought you’d seen it all when it came to rainbow manes, think again. The latest hair trend to emerge in 2017 is oh-so-magical – say hello to holographic hues! This trend is all about metallic dimension and pastel highlights, resulting in a hair tone so dynamic you’d swear it was changing color before your very eyes. Dreamy doesn’t even begin to describe this look. In fact, we can’t help but wonder if this is what a fairy would look like after a visit to the salon…

So how do you achieve this enchanted look? Hand-pressed coloring. During this process, the stylist uses hair color to paint different patterns on a Plexiglas sheet and then places a section of hair onto the glass, transferring the color to your strands. The stylist repeats this process throughout the hair using various hues of pastel pink, blue, and lavender. Not only is this technique faster than foils and balayage, it gives the stylist more control over the vibrancy. There is one catch – it requires some bleaching. In order to achieve that pearlescent hue that characterizes this look, you must have a light base color like gray or blonde. But should you be willing to take the plunge, the result is a gorgeous one: bold, bright, and borderline reflective hair. The only thing missing is a sprinkle of fairy dust!

Like so many other unicorn hair trends, holographic hair is what you make of it. If you aren’t afraid of going bold, amp up the color intensity. Prefer something more subtle? Opt for muted, more blended colors and let the shine do the talking. This trend gives you serious creative freedom, so make it your own.

As with any color makeover, it’s important to take extra care of your mane in the days that follow. Make sure to use a shampoo and conditioner that’s specifically designed for color treated hair and will restore moisture to processed strands. Our Hydrate Shampoo and Condition do both – and then some! We also recommend brushing up on our tips for lasting color. After all, you’ll want your new strands to stay as vibrant and hypnotizing as possible!
