Bonjour Dah-lings!
It’s the part of our hair care routine we all dread… brushing out those stubborn knots. We can’t seem to avoid them—especially our long-haired babes. The struggle is real!
We’ve put together our best advice for avoiding the frustration—and the damage.
Tangle-free hair starts with taking care of your strands with lots of love. A few extra steps to avoid knots saves you stress and breakage as you style. (Kind of like laying out your outfits at night saves stress in the morning—just kidding, dah-ling, we don’t have time for that either). But making time for a few tweaks in your hair care routine can make a huge difference in the quality of your hair.
Use these tricks to get the healthy, tangle-free hair you deserve:
Start From The Bottom
Your hair isn’t any different than your career: you have to start at the bottom and work your way up. Any time you’re battling tangles, never start at the roots (seriously, ouch!). Condition from the ends and work your way up your strands to the roots. Dry, malnourished hair is prone to tangles, so be sure to use a nourishing conditioner like our Hydrating Condition. Just like conditioning, you’ll want to tackled those tangles from the ends up as well. The best way to do that is by using a wide tooth comb. Start with the ends and make slow progress toward your crown.
Dry The Right Way
When it’s time to untangle your mane, wait until it’s dry. Hair is at its weakest when wet, so trying to conquer tough knots on soaked strands can cause major damage. Three things to avoid at all costs when you step out of the shower: rubbing or wrapping your hair in a towel, wringing it out and heat. Comb out your strands gently, but first protect them from breakage by using our Smoothing Balm on damp hair. This works like magic, removing complex textures of frizzy, wavy and unruly locks, and smoothing the way to a great hair day. Once you’ve protected your hair, begin drying and working out the tangles.
Give Your Locks A Rest
In order to avoid overnight tangles, sleep with care! After a restful night, it’s almost impossible to wake up without endless knots. Always brush your hair before bed to minimize your work in the morning. You’ll definitely thank yourself when you hit the snooze button too many times! While you’re getting your beauty sleep, keeping your hair contained is crucial. If you’re going to tie your hair back, replace your elastic band with something soft, like a scrunchie or a scarf for less stress on your strands!
Don’t let your tangles defeat you, dah-ling! Use these tips to help you give up the knotty life for good!
