Bonjour Dah-ling!
Can you say bright, bold, and daring? Steve Elias sure can! We teamed up with the famed editorial stylist and eleven-time North American Hairstyling Award nominee and two-time winner to create a collection that would make a statement and keep heads turning – and did we ever! The collaboration was inspired by the ever so popular “unicorn hair” trend, styles with a rainbow of colors that would make even your childhood My Little Pony jealous! With endless options from a subtle fade-out ombre to bright as can be all-over color, there’s no better way to make a statement than with unicorn hair. And because we’re just too excited to keep it to ourselves, we’re giving you a look into how we created these vivid creations.
Elias began with clean hair, thanks to Volumizing Shampoo and Condition. He played with contrasting shades, colors that were close on the color spectrum and complemented each other. Through mixing and intermixing, color melting and color blocking, he blended yellow with green and gray, coral with mint, red with orange, and gray with a denim-like shade. “To offset some of the brightness of the shades, I approached hair like you would makeup. If you do light eyes, you would play up a bright lip,” explains Elias, “ The contemporary, classic styles create a balance with the vivid colors that I used.”
Deep Autumn Textured Waves with Center Part
To create this look, Elias used a one-inch curling iron, wrapping hair vertically and creating spiral section placements with Non Aerosol Hair Spray and Thermal Styling Spray. He finished the look by brushing the curls out and spraying the hair with Mighty Hair Spray.
Soft Classic Lavender Waves
To give a blonde, multi-tonal effect, Elias created two back-to-back balayages before melting together three types of lavender and violet color. After washing, he combed through the hair using Super Comb Prep & Protect to soften and detangle any knots. He then applied Styling Foam and Blow Dry Lotion from roots to ends, blow-drying the hair with a round brush to create volume and texture. Before curling with a 1-inch iron, he applied Non Aerosol Hair Spray to ensure strands held the curl. After curling, he let the hair cool for 30 minutes to somber out, after which he completed the look with Mighty Hair Spray.
Voluminous Seafoam Textured Bob
Elias used a ½-inch spiral iron to achieve this style, using Thermal Styling Spray before applying heat. He then teased the hair all over, spraying with Mighty Hair Spray to keep the hair from losing its shape.
Over Directed Deep Slate Textured Waves
This look is a classic, on-scalp, 1-inch curling iron roller placement. Elias used Thermal Styling Spray to protect the hair against heat. After curling, he allowed the hair to cool completely before applying a generous amount of Mighty Hair Spray at the root to hold the hair in the direction he wanted it to go. He then brushed out the curls, teasing the hair to create volume and finish the look with more Mighty Hair Spray for hold and shine.
Soft Pastel Disconnected Shag
Elias applied Styling Foam and Support Solution to damp hair, before blowing out strands with a round brush. Next, he teased the crown and added a few drops of Fluro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil to give it that extra gloss.
