Move over pumpkin spice, there’s a new trend taking center stage this fall…Say hello to Tiger Eye, the color trend taking over our Instagram feeds one post at a time. Think balayage, but with a twist – and a new name to match! Inspired by the browns, golds, and caramel hues of the Tiger Eye stone, this look is ideal for brunettes looking to add dimension and texture to hair that might be getting dull or drab.
Let’s start with a brief lesson in geology…Tiger Eye is a semiprecious ancient stone characterized by its rich mix of golden and brown stripes. It’s often worn for protection and confidence and is even thought to bring harmony and balance to your life. The Tiger Eye trend takes the beauty of this lustrous gem and applies it to your strands – colorists paint caramel hued highlights onto the hair using the balayage technique for a beautiful blend of color that complements sweater weather perfectly. And like balayage, it grows out seamlessly, since there is no line of demarcation. Low maintenance babes, we’re looking at you!

The look can be done on both dark and light brunette hair, although the highlights will appear more dramatic and contrasted when applied on a chocolate or dark brown base. And because the color is hand painted onto the hair, the result is totally natural. None of those chunky, streaky highlights that characterized the early 2000’s. And it works with almost all hair lengths!

To keep the color at its richest, be sure to take proper care of your hair after leaving the salon. Only wash your hair as needed and when you do, always use a gentle, color-protecting shampoo, such as Hydrating Shampoo. And don’t skip the conditioner! Colored hair craves moisture, so follow with a moisture rich conditioner, like Hydrating Condition, to keep strands from drying out. For best results, rinse with cold water. Hot water dries out hair and skin, but cold water keeps your strands vibrant, healthy, and shiny – the goose bumps will be worth it!
